FROM CENTRE[3]:
Fatima Garzan often uses a hands-on-approach with everyday objects and materials. This way of experimenting with different materials to “making art” involves trying and failing, which shapes the basis of accidental new forms and ideas. She uses stitching materials, which represents human connection and relationships and what happens as they move on in different known and unknown directions. This process is an experience of the uncertainty of migration, time, distance, memory and absence, which shape our identity in an increasingly globalized world.
Fatima Garzan is a multidisciplinary Kitchener-based artist and a graduate of the University of Waterloo. She has completed residencies in Montreal, Paris France, and Salt Spring Island British Columbia and has exhibited in Canada, France, and Iran. She has worked at the Canada Council Art Bank and with various public and private collections.
